Cryptomator vaults have to be stored inside the Cryptomator directory of iCloud Drive so that it works between iOS and your desktop computer. If you create a vault with the iOS app, it's automatically stored inside this folder.

However, if you can't see the Cryptomator directory on your desktop computer or icloud.com, then this is unfortunately a rare issue. We have already contacted Apple about this issue, but we didn't get very far. We assume it's an iCloud Drive issue and it has been thoroughly discussed on GitHub: #171 and #364

Until now we've heard from all(!) users with this problem that the Cryptomator directory eventually(!) appears.

  • macOS users: Please update Cryptomator to at least version 1.3.0 which will fix this issue because the application is now able to recognize the Cryptomator directory in iCloud Drive.
  • Some users just had to wait. It can take 12h, 72h, or even longer. And then the folder magically appears!
  • For some users it helped to sign out from iCloud completely in the iOS settings and log in to iCloud again.
  • A complete disengagement of iCloud on every device might help. Be aware that if you have Apple Pay set up, this will trigger a complete wipe of the Wallet items.

We're sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.
